Iatmul house post with a beautiful sculptural quality from Papua New Guinea. The post includes a customized metal base. This piece comes from a holy men’s house where important decisions were made. It stand in a hamlet near Avatip village, which lies in the cultural border between the Iatmul and the Washkuk people. It was originally collected on site by Mr. Ulrich Kortmann, Dortmund Germany. Two other house items that he has collected are now in the collection and in the books of worldwide renowned art dealers J.P. Meyer and M. Hamson, specialized in Oceanic Art. You will find the Maprik figure on page 287 in the Meyer book and the garamut on page 204 in the book Michael Hamson’s Boiken.
